BC AOS Judging Site
One of the latest judging sites installed under the auspices of the American Orchid Society (AOS) is the Vancouver, BC Site in Richmond, BC. Due to all the orchid protection attempts like C.I.T.E.S. and other required documentation, it had become nearly impossible to take orchid plants across an international border to be judged. The only time Western Canadians could have their orchids considered for AOS judging, was during an AOS sanctioned show. A small meeting hall, the Sea Island Community Centre, close to the Vancouver International Airport is where western Canadians now have an official AOS judging, once a month, rain or shine. Since the site opened, over four and a half years ago, 702 plants have been submitted for judging, of which 161 were nominated and 67 have received AOS awards. Judging is held regularly on the second Saturday of each month, starting at 12:00 noon. The address is 7140 Miller Road, Richmond. Usually the meetings last between three to four hours. The judges are always eager to share their love of orchids with anyone interested and hope to see you there. On February 11, 2011 the following AOS award was granted: Photographs courtesy of Judith Higham
